Description
Emerald Steakhouse is a restaurant for the upper class. This sign was made in tandem with a website for the. The logo had the same geometry in the background in the sign and on the website for the sake of consistency.
Design Concept
Sharp angles established a sense of seriousness by using sharp angles exclusively. Font choices were made with careful consideration. A variant of Bodoni was chosen because of stark contrast between thick and thin lines. Gill Sans was chosen for its evenly weighted geometry.
Fabrication Technique
The background of this sign is glossy vinyl on a foam core base. The logo is layered to add depth. Each layer has a metallic green vinyl for the base and a sheet of translucent smoky headlight film to create a value gradient. The typography is the only element that has a matte finish in order to help it stand out from the rest of the piece.
